Mahmud Tantoush

Dr Mahmud Tantoush is a Senior Lecturer at the Manchester School of Architecture (MSA). His work bridges emperical and applied research by developing evidence-based approaches to design and planning that integrate AI, urban big data, and complexity science to inform sustainable and resilient future cities. He leads the [CPU]ai studio at the MSA, focusing on computational design and urban analytics. He also leads the MArch Year 2 (RIBA Part 2) design studios at the MSA, and collborates with leading national practices.

Research focus: developing and using new analytical frameworks that combine data, expert knowledge, and theoretical models to explore patterns and complexity for design and planning to inform future cities.

Related research areas:

  • Developing new adaptive design analytical frameworks enabling design exploration through data-informed analysis
  • Design and policy strategies for sustainable and future cities
  • Evidence-based approaches to architectural and urban design
